Island Cave Adventure
6/18/2026 | Ha Ha Tonka State Park | Camdenton, Mo.
Ha Ha Tonka State Park is offering self-guided Island Cave expeditions three days a week from June 18 to Aug. 1. Expeditions are available Thursday through Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Participation is limited to 12 people per tour, with a minimum age of 6 years. Participants who are 18 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Registration is required by calling the park at 573-346-2986.
Participants will meet at the visitor center to fill out a free permit application and attend a caving orientation. They will then head out for a short but rugged hike to the cave before exploring the cave and ultimately hiking back to the visitor center.
Island Cave is a wild cave. It has narrow passageways and rough, slick surfaces. There are no improved paths within the cave. Both the above-ground portion and the cave exploration require strenuous activity. Only people who are in good physical condition should participate in this expedition.
To enter the cave, you must bring three light sources and be dressed in closed-toe shoes and full-length pants. It is also highly recommended that you wear leather gloves and long sleeves. Sunscreen and insect repellent may come in handy during the hikes to and from the cave. Hard hats will be provided for the caving portion.
These events are subject to cancellation due factors including low registration and inclement weather. Call the park for more information.
