History of the Santa Fe Trail

at Arrow Rock State Historic Site

7/4/2026 | Arrow Rock State Historic Site | Arrow Rock, Mo.

The Santa Fe Trail was a vital trading route during the 1800s. It crossed the Missouri River near the village of Arrow Rock, and the village served as the first rendezvous point for westward travelers. The National Park Service designated Arrow Rock as a National Historic Landmark in 1963 and recognized the Santa Fe Trail as a National Historic Trail in 1987.

You're invited to learn more about the Santa Fe Trail during this presentation at Arrow Rock State Historic Site. The presentation will take place in the historic site's visitor center from 9-10:30 a.m. It will explore the rich history of the Santa Fe Trail, the supply-and-demand philosophy that drove its creation, the technological advances that caused its demise, and the preservation efforts that have occurred since the early 1900s.

This event is free and open to the public. There is no need to register. For more information, call the site office at 660-837-3330.
